Hi friends! I know it’s been a while, but things have been crazy around here. From non-stop sessions to cancer treatments, I haven’t had time to blog and it has made me so sad! But, we are back and have a fun surprise for you today. Jack celebrated his 30th birthday with a camping trip (one of our favorite things to do) and I’m here to share it with you!
Jack and I LOVE to camp. It brings us away from technology and really helps us to rekindle our bond. We haven’t gone since we adopted Rocky and what better way to restart than celebrating the big 3-0! Rocky was so happy to finally go on an adventure with us, but he had no idea what he was in for. He just knew he got a new bed and was in the car!
This past Sunday, we loaded up our car with a brand new tent and tons of gear in tow. We drove 2 hours to Fort DeSoto, just south of St. Petersburg. Our campsite had the most gorgeous waterfront view with the beach just a half-mile away. We set up our tent and hammocks to enjoy the peaceful sounds of the wind through the palm trees. The grill was always fired up for delicious meals and we played miniature versions of our favorite games.
I am obsessed with birthdays. I think they are so fun and I love celebrating others. Jack’s 30th birthday had a dinosaur theme (perfect for a 30 year old, right??). He opened his presents of colorful socks and a wooden bowtie, along with a complete wedding day outfit. We visited the fort to experience one of Jack’s favorite activities: sign reading. We also went to the dog beach to see if Rocky would swim. He HATED the water and refused to go in. He was also not fond of bonding with the other dogs. Definitely my kid. We had delicious steaks for his birthday dinner, and s’mores over a makeshift campfire for dessert.
It may not sound like the most eventful weekend, but it was such an amazing way to unwind. With everything that had happened since New Year’s Eve, we hadn’t had a vacation. It was so nice to just be with nature and each other.
