This session that I’m sharing today is really close to my heart, but not in the ways you might think. I didn’t know the Kopp family. Well, at least until their session. What I did know, though, was their story. It so closely resembles my family’s that I couldn’t turn it down, even with the peculiar scheduling circumstances. It’s because I knew their personal story so well that I was able to help where I could. That’s why this Melbourne extended family session was so important to me.
The Kopp’s story revolves around cancer, something I have become all too familiar with. Kristin reached out to me at the beginning of June about an extended family session. They were traveling to Melbourne at the end of the month to visit her father-in-law. He has end-stage mesothelioma and it was important to her to have some photos of the family together while he was still in good spirits. Even being on treatment and going into a new trial, cancer is so tricky. You never know what can happen. I knew exactly what she was looking for as we just had updated photos done in November for my own family.
I shared my story with Kristin and we immediately clicked. It was the right fit for each other. Honestly, having someone in your corner that understands completely and the situation doesn’t need to be discussed further is the greatest thing. As her father-in-law was starting new treatment when they were arriving to Florida, we weren’t able to set a date until the week of. However, we ended up with the most perfect setting and beautiful weather for their Melbourne extended family session.
I met the Kopp family at their home in Melbourne in the last week of June. The Sahara Sand had just arrived in Florida and created this hazy sky (which I really loved)! Their neighbor lived on the Indian River and was gracious enough to let us utilize her back yard for the session. Everyone was dressed in a shade of blue for their grandmother who was no longer with them. So sweet!! Together, we created some wonderful memories for the family that they could look back on and remember the happy moments, not the sad reasoning behind them.
Kristin, your family was the absolute sweetest and I loved getting to know you all! Thank you for trusting me with this moment in your life. Take a peek into their Melbourne extended family session below!
