As a destination wedding photographer, I get to travel to some pretty amazing places and capture love stories. This weekend was no different, except that it was a place I know well and a couple I hold near and dear to my heart. Jack and I were so honored to travel back to my home state to photograph Laura and Jon’s New Jersey farm wedding! Their day was nothing short of perfect and I can’t wait for you to see!
But first, a quick recap. I’ve known this stunning bride, Laura, literally since the day I was born. Her parents are actually my godparents, so we were close when I was younger (you should see those matching outfits they put us in!!). My family moved to Orlando when I was 5, and we weren’t able to visit as often as we’d like.
However, that all changed when I had the opportunity to travel to Boston in 2013 and spend a week with Laura at her school! This is also when I met many of her wedding party members and guests. After that, we’ve remained close and have had many adventures together, from more Boston and New Jersey trips to hanging out in Florida and cruising to Mexico. Laura and I got engaged two months apart and I was so honored when she asked me to capture her wedding day to Jon.
Speaking of their New Jersey farm wedding day, let’s get to it! My photographer’s heart was bursting at the seams with the amount of detail that went into the day. Laura is a huge planner and organizer, so every detail of their wedding day had meaning. For example, Funko Pops played a huge part in their wedding. Jon collects these characters, so it was important to incorporate them into the day! The table numbers all had Funko Pop couples attached to them, they had customized Laura and Jon Funko Pops as their cake topper, and all of the wedding party received a Funko Pop that reminded the couple of them! How cute is that? Laura also loves color, so rainbow items were seen throughout the wedding day, from her shoes to the cake!
Football also played a huge role in their New Jersey farm wedding day. Laura and Jon’s programs for the ceremony resembled football statistics with items such as the “Starting Lineup” and “Player Statistics”. Laura and Jon also had custom jerseys (also featured in their engagement session) hanging on their sweetheart table chairs. The couple even exited down the aisle to the NFL theme song!
But, my absolute favorite moment from Laura and Jon’s New Jersey farm wedding day has to be the first looks. That’s right, Laura had two first looks with the most important guys in her life! The first first look was with her Bride’s Guy, Kyle. Kyle is Laura’s best friend that she met while attending Wentworth Institute of Technology (and one of the first people I met in Boston)! She had been keeping the picture of her dress from him for a while, and knew that a first look with him would be so special. Well, he didn’t disappoint! I may have been tearing up behind the camera watching him cry over how beautiful she looked.
Laura and Jon’s first look was even more special. They were both so nervous to see one another! Laura walked up behind Jon and said “Babe! Turn around!”. The look on his face when he saw her brought even more tears. The best part, though, was that they had no idea if they could go near each other, so they stood apart for way longer than they wanted to. When they finally embraced, it was too much to handle. Between the tears and the laughter, I’m surprised we captured the moment!!
Laura and Jon, I cannot thank you both enough for the honor of capturing your wedding day. It truly meant the world to be there for you both and celebrate in your love. I hope you are both having the best time in St. Lucia on your honeymoon!! Here are a few previews to hold you over until you get back.
