Jack and I pulled into Lake Runnymede to meet Alex and Marissa for their engagement session. Dark clouds loomed overhead. I kept checking the radar and praying that the giant storm coming across Central Florida would pass us. This sweet couple had flown all the way from Albany, New York to escape the cold for their engagement session! Rain drops started, but we are always up for embracing the rain. As soon as they pulled in, the crazy strong winds and downpour arrived. Go figure. So, we postponed until Sunday where we had the most GORGEOUS weather! We also were able to bond over a lovely breakfast at our favorite breakfast joint: Keke’s.
Marissa and Alex first met when they worked together in customer service at a tech start up in Schenectady, New York. They both share a love for board games and checking out new restaurants and breweries. They push the other to try something new or put something in perspective when the other is stressed. Marissa and Alex had been great friends from the moment they met, but you never know how dating a friend can turn out. Thankfully, it was amazing for these two!
Marissa and Alex had a pretty crazy summer last year, so they missed their usual anniversary date night. On September 21st, they decided to celebrate. As luck would have it Marissa would get a bad cold that week and was a bit feverish that night. Alex made a dinner of mac and cheese (both of our favorites as we found out over breakfast), and gave a couple belated anniversary gifts. The last was a 5 year daily question journal where he changed the daily question to “Will You Marry Me?” Of course Marissa said yes! Marissa did have an idea it was coming when her dad accidentally mentioned getting dinner with Alex which she didn’t know was happening. As a daddy’s girl, she could tell he was getting his blessing.
I met Marissa and Alex while photographing Nicole and Michael’s wedding in Centerville, Virginia. Marissa was one of their bridesmaids and just such a joy to be around. We opened a few slots this year for out-of-state weddings, and Nicole tagged her and told her to call us. I don’t think I had ever been more excited. While on the phone for their consultation, the engagement session came up. Marissa and Alex were sitting in -15 degree weather in Albany, and asked if there was any way they could fly down to Orlando for their session. Of course I said yes, because -15 degrees does NOT sound like fun!!
The idea of warmth, sunshine, and large oak trees with Spanish moss felt like the perfect engagement session plan. On Sunday, when we were FINALLY blessed with great weather, Jack and I met the couple out at Lake Runnymede. This hidden oasis is the best mix of everything they dreamt of and more. With long golden grass, massive trees, and an abundance of moss, they felt transported out of Albany, but still had a hint of home. We adventured through the property, cracking jokes about dinosaurs and learning about their New York wedding plans. We ended our session by traveling to the lake for some sunset portraits. Marissa and Alex were photobombed by a few classic Florida friends (no alligators this time).
