That’s right friends! I have another first birthday session for you today. This is probably the CUTEST session I’ve had in a while, but not for the reasons you might think. Yes, the pink and mauve theme in nature was so precious. But, it’s Emmie’s adorable GRUMPY face that just melted my heart!!! I will explain more about the face and her pink first birthday session at Lake Runnymede, but first, a backstory…
To understand this session a little more, I have to take you back to 2015. I was in Richmond completing my internship and was just starting out in weddings. I had done one the year before and fell in love. Emmie’s mom, Caleigh, reached out to me about weddings and took a chance on me! Although that love story didn’t work out, Caleigh moved forward and found the absolute perfect man for her! I was so so happy that she was finally happy.
One day last year, she reached out to me and asked if I worked with little ones… What?! Caleigh was expecting a little girl!!! Jack ran in the room and asked me why I was screaming. I was just so freaking excited for her and Joel! I finally got to meet the little bundle of joy in October and she just had the cutest little face in the world. Little did we know what it would turn in to when we reached her pink first birthday session at Lake Runnymede…
Fast forward to 2020 and little Miss Emmie turned one TODAY!! Caleigh wanted the large oak trees and Spanish moss for Emmie’s first birthday session and I knew just the place: Lake Runnymede. She created a pink first birthday theme for Emmie’s session. The mauves and pinks of Emmie’s outfits and decor really popped in the tree covered preserve! Plus, those pigtails just made the whole session!!
Caleigh warned me ahead of time that she had a “grump” face. I’d been watching Emmie grow on Facebook and Instagram, so I had seen this face before. I just wasn’t convinced she’d have it during her session! But, oh my gosh. Honestly, it was adorable. It was like a “Really? Are you really making me be the cutest model right now? I don’t think so” face. The funniest part of the whole pink first birthday session was that she didn’t want Caleigh anywhere near her for photos!! She wanted to be “alone” for her modeling, so Caleigh had to keep hiding behind trees while Jack and I made crazy faces. Jack tried every trick in the book for a smile, but the grumpy face stayed, and I loved it. It reminded me of how I was as a little one!
Caleigh, thank you so much for trusting me again and again with your life’s most precious moments. And now Emmie’s too! I am so excited to see where she goes from here and I hope she never loses the grump face!! These are some of my favorite portraits to date, so take a peek into Emmie’s pink first birthday session at Lake Runnymede!
