6 Pieces of Wedding Planning Advice for Newly Engaged Couples

You’re engaged!! How exciting is that?? Now that the flood of loving messages and phone calls has died down, you are heading into the wedding planning stage. Boy oh boy is that stressful. But, we are here to give you some wedding planning advice and help you through it all.

Wedding Planning Advice: Don’t Rush into It

We know you are excited, but take some time to think it through. Enjoy your engagement. Everyone will be asking you for the details, but there is no need to feel pressured. It’s YOUR day and you get to enjoy every minute of the experience. There are a LOT of wedding planning advice websites and articles out there, and you may think you need it all. To be honest, you don’t. Slow down and explore ALL of your options.

Discuss Your Vision Together

You are a team now! The wedding day is about two becoming one, so make sure you discuss that day as a team, and not an individual. Everything will go MUCH smoother and it will actually help you narrow down your choices! Making a budget together and securing your big items first (location, guest list, etc) will make sure you are both on the same page in the long run. It will also help with all of the family and friends who want to have an input on your day.

When you finally get into the swing of things, delegation is so important. If you’re anything like me, asking for help can be hard, especially when it’s something so close to your heart! But, the process can become extremely overwhelming if you do it all on your own. Some things you can delegate are invitation stuffing, picking up items, DIY crafts, florals, and so much more. For example, if you decide to go wholesale on your flowers (we have an amazing vendor to recommend!!), consider having a bouquet building party with your bridesmaids! Drink some bubbly and build away. Our amazing bride, SJ, did this and had such a blast doing something with her girls!

You Get What You Paid For

One of the biggest pieces of wedding planning advice I can give is to remember “You get what you paid for.” The cheapest option isn’t always the best. Take a look at all the reviews, talk to each vendor, and make sure you have the best option for you. Most vendors who require more investment in their work have have the best gear, put in the billion hours of education, and are truly professionals in the field. They also have the best experience for you as a couple. The $500 photographer will most likely miss the most important shots and could end up making your day more stressful.

Find a Balance

Wedding planning is CRAZY stressful. It’s can even be stressful on our end with so many different weddings throughout the year! Make sure to find a balance in your planning. Breaks are amazing. I’m talking like a month off sometimes. Go on a date night, relax at the spa, take your girlfriends out for the night, ANYTHING to ease the stress. Because remember….

Your Relationship is the Most Important

Putting your relationship above everything else during this engagement period is the most important thing you could do. This is the biggest piece of wedding planning advice we can give you. The day is about you as a couple. If you forget that part and are so focused on the day itself, the relationship won’t last long. Nothing will be perfect on your wedding day. Your hair and makeup may not be exactly as it was in the trial. Your flowers might be late. The cake may not be what you envisioned. Your wedding party could take longer to get ready. You might even forget your marriage license at home. All of that is perfectly okay. What matters is that your RELATIONSHIP is strong and you focus on the person you are about to meet down that aisle.
