As a Winston-Salem family photographer, I spend a lot of time exploring our city with my family and helping other families discover new places to enjoy together. If you’re looking for an afternoon adventure, a weekend outing, or a way to make new family memories, Winston-Salem has no shortage of kid-friendly activities. One of my favorite things about raising a family here is the variety. You can cheer on a baseball team, explore local history, paddle across a lake, visit a museum, or spend a day outdoors without ever leaving the area. If you’re searching for family activities in Winston-Salem, here are some of our family’s favorite spots.

Our Favorite Family-Friendly Things to Do in Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem Dash

951 Ballpark Way, Winston-Salem, NC 27101

The Winston-Salem Dash is easily one of our family’s favorite outings. We attend several games every year, and what keeps us coming back is how family-friendly the experience feels. The organization does a great job getting kids involved and creating an atmosphere that’s fun even for family members who aren’t huge baseball fans. Don’t skip getting a picture with Bolt or chasing home run balls in the berm! Between the excitement of the game, kid-focused activities, and the energetic crowd, it’s the perfect way to spend an evening together. If you’re looking for a family activity that appeals to multiple age groups, a Dash game is always a great choice. They are very family-oriented and love getting kids involved. We may have even convinced my brother to participate in a dizzy bat race dressed as a dinosaur when he visited.

Softgolf

Tanglewood Park, 4035 Clemmons Rd, Clemmons, NC 27012

If your family enjoys a little friendly competition, Softgolf is worth adding to your list. This unique game combines golf with oversized, soft balls, making it more approachable and fun for players of all ages. One of the best things about Softgolf is that younger children can participate without feeling intimidated. Families can play together, laugh together, and enjoy some outdoor activity without needing previous golf experience.

ROAR WS

633 N Liberty St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101

ROAR WS offers several entertainment options under one roof, making it an excellent destination when you’re trying to keep everyone entertained. Families can enjoy games, bowling, interactive activities, and great food in a lively atmosphere.

This is one of those places that works well for a family outing, birthday celebration, or rainy-day adventure. With activities suitable for both kids and adults, it’s easy to spend a few hours having fun together.

North Carolina summers can get warm, and the City Pools & Aquatics facilities provide a great way for families to cool off. Whether your kids are confident swimmers or just love splashing around, local aquatic facilities make for an easy and affordable family outing.

Swimming is also a fantastic way to help children stay active while having fun. Pack your towels, sunscreen, and snacks, and enjoy a relaxing day in the water.

Old Salem Museums & Gardens

900 Old Salem Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101

Old Salem is one of the most unique destinations in the area. Walking through the historic district feels like stepping back in time, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about local history in an engaging way. Families can explore restored buildings, gardens, demonstrations, and exhibits while enjoying a peaceful stroll through one of Winston-Salem’s most iconic locations. It’s both educational and fun, which makes it a win for parents and kids alike.

Historic Bethabara Park

2147 Bethabara Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106

Historic Bethabara Park combines history, nature, and beautiful scenery. Families can explore trails, visit historical structures, and learn about the area’s early settlers. I especially love this location for families who want something a little slower-paced. It’s a wonderful place to walk, talk, and enjoy quality time together while learning something new along the way.

Reynolda House Museum Of American Art And Gardens

2250 Reynolda Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106

Reynolda House offers a combination of art, history, and stunning outdoor spaces. Inside, you’ll find impressive collections of American art, while outside you’ll discover beautifully maintained gardens and walking paths. Even if your children aren’t typically interested in museums, the grounds alone make this a worthwhile visit. As a photographer, I also love the beautiful scenery throughout the property.

Kaleideum

120 W 3rd St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101

When parents ask me for recommendations that are guaranteed to be a hit with younger children, Kaleideum is usually near the top of my list. This hands-on museum encourages curiosity through interactive exhibits, creative play, science exploration, and learning opportunities. Kids can stay engaged for hours while parents enjoy watching them discover and create. It’s one of the best indoor family activities in Winston-Salem.
