After an unbearably hot summer, there’s finally a chill in the air, and that alone is a reason to celebrate! As we slide into the colder months, it’s time to ditch the shorts and tank tops for jeans and sweaters and fully embrace the magic of the holiday season. If you’re looking for the perfect activity over the next few months, I would love to tell you all about the Piedmont Winterfest. Grab your favorite people and some ice skates, and head over to LeBauer Park for some thrilling winter memories!
Piedmont Winterfest is a modern tradition that takes place over two-and-a-half months every year. The event is put on by Skyla Federal Credit Union and features a skating rink as well as spectator seating and spots for photo opportunities. The rink itself is lit up by Christmas lights and is the ideal size for recreational skating. During school holidays, they often have extended hours so your child has a way to stay entertained without screens. Because the rink is outdoors, it will occasionally close when it rains. You can check the Facebook page ahead of your visit to ensure the rink is ready for action! Piedmont Winterfest takes place in LeBauer Park, which is where the splash pad is set up during the summer. You can find it at 208 N Davie Street in Greensboro.
Piedmont Winterfest offers tons of great activities people of all ages will adore! The skating rink is beginner-friendly and has a limited number of skating aids available for those of us who aren’t natural Michelle Kwans. While you’re more than welcome to bring your own, the rink does have skates available to rent. You’ll be able to skate for as long as you’d like before warming up with a cup of hot cocoa. The rink makes group trips a bit more affordable by offering 15% off admission and skate rental to groups of 10 or more skaters.
If you’re looking for some winter fun with your group or organization, the Piedmont Winterfest rink lets you rent out the ice for private sessions. You can bring as many skaters as you’d like and rent out some blades without additional fees. You’ll also be able to use the skate aids for free!
The ice serves as the practice place for the Greensboro Curling League. If you’ve always been curious about trying your hand at the sport, call the rink so you can join in the fun!
The Piedmont Winterfest gives you a fun way to get out this winter with your family and friends. Check it out so you can start on your new family tradition!
