Can you describe your business and what you do to serve families in the community?

We are a Postpartum Doula/Newborn Care Specialist/Sleep Consultant company that will come to your home to help you in the first few days/weeks/months after your new baby has arrived. I personally am a full spectrum doula/NCS/sleep consultant with an emergency medical background that will teach you tricks and skills regarding all sorts of infant care, but our specialty is sleep! We are magical with our sleep conditioning, and most times, have our babes sleeping through the night by 8-12 weeks of age without CIO. (sometimes even earlier!)

We offer virtual postpartum and sleep packages as well! We currently serve Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Oak Ridge, Summerfield, High Point, and will travel to locations upon request.

Why did you become a postpartum doula?

I found there was a huge need in this area for newborn care in the evenings. I was a newborn nanny for over 20 years and decided my calling was to help mamas and their newborns. Additionally, I love to teach sleep skills and overall help families enjoy life instead of being stressed/overtired and possibly slipping into postpartum depression. I help alleviate that by spending the evening so parents can sleep.

How would you describe your doula style?

I am more of a holistic/natural doula that has a laid-back style.

How do you handle new parents who are feeling a mix of emotions or struggling with some aspect of early parenting?

I sit down with them every night for 1 hour to chat and keep an open communication line. When you have a contract with us, we are available 24/7 to answer any questions and help with any emergencies. We provide you with schedules, data collection, and any other info you may need.

What specific things do you do as a doula to support Greensboro, NC, families during postpartum?

Assist in caring for mom and baby by helping prepare bottles, cleaning pump parts, waking mom to pump if needed, reminding mom to drink water/refill cups as needed, providing nutrition if it is a day shift, as well as laundry service if needed. If I see something that needs cleaning/organizing…I just pitch in and help wherever I can. That allows moms to spend more quality time with their baby. I will even provide support to siblings in the home as needed and provide overnight monitor support for them as well.

What is your most common type of booking when it comes to postpartum doulas and sleep consulting? Are they booking a combination of services, one more than the other, etc?

It is usually a mix of all 3 services that most of our clients request. We are unique in that way. Most families want service from day 1 home from the hospital, and I spend nights with them for a few months, up to 1 year. Once in a while, we will get a contract for only a week or two that is strictly postpartum doula support.

Tell us about your experience with supporting families during the postpartum period.

I absolutely love what I do and could not imagine doing anything else. I feel this is my calling, and I’m so blessed to work with so many amazing families! Every baby that I have ever watched will always have a place in my heart!

Where did you train to become a postpartum doula, and have you taken any continuing education since your initial training?

I have taken many different classes; in fact, I am usually always enrolled in a couple classes at a time. DONA, Summer Hartman Sleep Secrets, Stillbirthday, Breastfeeding Doula, PMAD’s, TOTS, CPR/First Aid, Newborn Care Training Academy, and a few smaller classes too. I believe that education never stops, and new data is always coming out. I refresh my classes frequently to keep up with all the new data.

At what age can you start sleep coaching a child? Is there an age at which it’s too late to sleep train?

Sleep Training begins after 4 months, but I have where I offer Sleep consulting as early as day 1. I have a specialized way that I teach babies to teach themselves to fall asleep independently from day 1. I use special calculations to make sure baby is intaking all ounces and growing before they can sleep through the night, though.

What should parents expect when sleep coaching, and what do they have to commit to?

Parents need to expect to work as a team and follow the guidelines given to them for the best success. It is successful for all when we are all on the same page!

What are the 3 biggest problems that you see when trying to help families with sleep?

  1. They rush immediately to the child instead of waiting a beat.
  2. They do not follow the pick-up-put-down guidelines that were given to them.
  3. They give up and bring the baby to bed with them.

Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know?

I absolutely love what I do. But if you ever have any questions, just ask! I even have a Teen Mom fund where I collect donations to help teen moms with supplies and classes while they are still in school. I have also teamed up with Butterfly Swaddle! So that if you purchase from my link, the proceeds go straight into my teen mom fund as well! If you know a teen mom who needs help, please feel free to contact me.
