Four Winston-Salem Summer Camps You Kids Will Love!

In Motion Dance Center

Do you have a kid who likes to move and groove? Or maybe they are already enrolled in dance classes? Then a dance class or camp may be the perfect thing to keep them busy this summer! In Motion Dance Center is a premier school in Winston-Salem that is dedicated to providing quality dance instruction in all forms of dance for students of all ages.

The studio itself is a state-of-the-art facility with five studio rooms, a spacious lobby (perfect for watching class in action through large observation windows!), modern sound system technology, and plenty of bathrooms. The staff is knowledgeable, experienced, and passionate about both teaching and dance, and most classes will have a lead instructor and at least one assistant.

This summer, In Motion Dance Center is offering a variety of camps and classes for all ages and abilities. Their Young Dancer Camps are for kids ages 3 – 7, and they’ll include music, crafts, activities, and of course, dancing that correlates to a fun theme like Under the Sea, Welcome to the Jungle, Princess Dance Camp, Broadway Bound, and more! Intermediate Dance Camp is for kids ages 8 -12, and these programs are designed to help kids increase their technical ability in all forms of dance using a themed approach like “I Wanna Be a Rockette” or “Fashionista.” Whatever age or ability your kid may be, there’s a fun Winston-Salem summer camp for them to take at In Motion!

Salem Gymnastics and Swim

Salem Gymnastics and Swim dedicated themselves to keeping kids safe and moving, emphasizing fun while teaching important life skills and lessons. In the nearly 45 years they’ve been open, they’ve helped tens of thousands of students gain confidence through gymnastics and tumbling, and more recently (well, since 2001), they’ve been helping parents and kids learn the importance of water safety, too.

Throughout the year, they offer tons of classes and programs to teach gymnastics and swimming skills to kids of all ages and abilities. In the summertime, their camps offer the best of both worlds to kids ages 3 – 11. Their Totally Kids Camps basically provide each kid a month’s worth of swimming and gymnastics lessons in one week! In every camp, they’ll get two swim lessons and two gymnastics lessons taught by their professionally trained staff. All participants will learn life-saving swimming skills, gymnastic agility, and stamina, as well as various other activities and games throughout the week. Kids are divided into groups based on age. So they’ll be learning age-appropriate material at a similar pace to their peers, all while having fun and learning important socialization skills, too!

Plus, each week, their offered summer camps are designed to play off of an entirely new fun theme, like Ninja Warrior, Super Hero, Wizards, Summer Olympics, and so much more right here in Winston-Salem. It’s never a dull day when you’re splashing, tumbling, and learning at Salem Gymnastics and Swim!!

Summit School

Summit School is a private institution with deep roots in the Progressive principles of John Dewey. These highlight important ideas like helping children become not only lifelong learners but also good people. In addition, community engagement, active learning, and social responsibility each get some focus. Their skilled and knowledgeable staff focuses on educating the whole child beyond the four walls of the classroom. Their Winston-Salem summer camp programming reflects these values, too!

While the school itself is private, its summer programs are open to the public. They offer camps to kids ages 3 through rising 9th graders. They offer a variety of one-week day camps. Each of these takes inspiration from a skill, topic, theme, or developmental stage. For example, their Project Play camp for 3 and 4-year-olds offers little ones the chance to play and explore in a safe and welcoming environment, including plenty of time to make discoveries outdoors! There are camps that revolve around pottery, chess, Dungeons and Dragons, trendy crafts, theatre, animal caregiving, and so much more.

Camps at Summit School are incredibly popular and fill up quickly. So be sure to keep your eye on their signup date for availability!

Their summer camps are just as awesome as their other year-round programming, too! Camp Kaleideum has offerings for kids ages 3 – rising 8th graders with a bunch of unique science themes.
